Making a Significant Impact

Protecting Vital Waterfowl Breeding Grounds

Stretching across the Great Plains up to Canada, the Prairie Pothole Region is North America’s most important waterfowl breeding ground, supporting more than 50 percent of the continent’s ducks and geese each spring. Yet this vital habitat is at risk, losing 50,000 acres annually. Together with Ducks Unlimited – the world’s leader in waterfowl conservation – and alongside fish and wildlife agencies, we’re working to protect wide swaths of this vulnerable habitat. The partnership’s efforts have helped protect over 1.8 million acres, paying dividends to waterfowlers and all who enjoy healthy, abundant wildlife.

Creating a Future for the Florida Everglades

The Florida Everglades ecosystem once spanned the entire lower half of Florida, from present-day Orlando to the Florida Keys. Due to development, flood protection and crop growth in the rich soil, the ecosystem is facing challenges unlike any seen before. We’re convening experts to study and identify sustainable solutions for this vulnerable ecosystem and interconnected Florida reefs in collaboration with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, Fish and Wildlife Foundation of Florida, the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership and the Center for Sportfishing Policy. Our support is helping develop and implement solutions to Florida’s most pressing conservation issues.

Conserving Millions of Acres of Turkey Habitat

As its largest and longest-running partner, we’re proud to support the National Wild Turkey Federation’s “Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt” initiative to conserve and enhance four million acres of habitat, recruit 1.5 million new hunters and open access to 500,000 additional acres for hunting in its first 10 years.

Growing Bass Populations

We partner with state fish and wildlife agencies to grow bass populations. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s ShareLunker program is a citizen science effort that rewards anglers who report their big catches to help expand scientific data. Our funding helped support the program’s expansion, enticing greater participation and broadening the depth of research findings used nationwide to make bass fishing bigger and better for everyone.

Teaming up for elk

We’re supporting the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s efforts to improve access with projects in Montana and Nebraska, opening nearly 60,000 acres of public land with thriving elk habitats. A project in Idaho is reducing conifer encroachment to improve habitat for elk, pronghorn, greater sage-grouse, golden eagle and other sagebrush-dependent wildlife, treating tens of thousands of acres annually.

From engaging their customers to directly funding on-the-ground conservation efforts, Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s are truly unparalleled leaders in advancing key conservation initiatives in our country.
